KENYA in t-4 days

February 21, 2010

I can’t believe it’s this close already. I’ve even made it past the freaked-out-leaving-the-country stage and have made peace with the fact that I have virtually NO idea what the next three months will hold for me. For that matter, I have no idea what the rest of the year will hold for me as job applications and graduate school seem to have taken a back seat for now. I’m hoping that I’ll find some direction for post-Africa life in Kakamega.

Final preparations for departure are underway (like figuring out when my flight actually leaves from Atlanta.) I’ve successfully purchased just about everything I think I’ll need – still left to get are heavy duty water purification tablets and sunscreen. I also need to get rid of the head cold that I managed to pick up in the last week before I venture to a continent where my ability to get good, germ killing antibiotics is questionable.

Observations for this mundane part of the coming adventure: the amount of drugs necessary to travel to a developing country is ridiculous, laundry before long trips is depressing, and  one thing I’m NOT going to miss about the states is the nasty smoke filled bars.

T-4…wow, that is coming up quick! I’m sure it will all work out, just trust (Prov. 3:5)! Hope you have a great day and are able to find the last few things that you need. 🙂
P.S. Lucy sends some licks and barks!

Wow. Good luck and congrats! Have you decided on a school at all yet?

Thanks for the congrats! I think grad school is going to wait a year in favor of getting a job to pay for this trip to Kenya!
